“Putting these wonderful objects together in a mass, in a singular abstract form magically elevates my affinity for them, for their time and for modernity’s continued march.”

“I have been a collector and an artist my entire life. Those pursuits have accumulated many wide-ranging interests.  One of the more monumental, a muse really, is the period between the Civil War and WWII, where industry was born and so began to walk. This period ceaselessly inspires and fascinates me. How populations transitioned from a largely agrarian life to a novel & modern life with canned goods, machines, assembly lines, postage stamps, hobbies and so much more is a paradigm shift of epic proportions. I find myself continuously honoring and referencing the way so many items and behaviors of that day were manifested, such as simple hand tools, while putting their very virtues into my own artistic expression, and my very standard of creation.” - Matt Figliola

"I admire the countless hands which gripped the tools I've incorporated into my work.  Their make-do modifications, personal inscriptions, proud paint jobs, and more.  And, too, the hand's of time, exacting such wonderful patina and character to their surfaces." - Matt Figliola
